The production era stretched from the end of the Civil War until the 1920s. The focus of the time period was to expand industrialization and making of consumer goods.
The production era was very focused on producing things for personal consumption. The things people produced were used entirely by themselves and their families. With the advent of better production methods, greater numbers could be produced more quickly, and there was excess after the family had met their needs. This excess could be sold, and the money obtained used to buy more things. These beginnings of exchange separated the production era from the sale era.
