Yorkshire water in the UK was faced with bankruptcy after a prolonged drought in about 1996. Water supplies were privatised by the Thatcher government and It was forced to move water in road tankers to supply it's customers. This was very costly and was due to insufficient investment in building reservoirs and bore holes. They survived but only just.
