Thus, per capita the GNP was 16trillion/300million (population of US) =$47,000 (Note: the direct math would lead one to 53,333; however, particular issues regarding the population most be taken into account). It may also be important to note that the CIA documents the GNP per capita to be 46,900. A nice, round number like 47,000 is just easier to remember.
