That would be pretty difficult to have because U.S. dimes have been made of copper-nickel since 1965. Anything with a copper core (look at its edge) is worth only face value.

There were a few "transitional errors" in the mid-1960s during the changeover from silver to clad coinage; occasionally some silver blanks got mixed in with the clad ones. However that's extremely unlikely to have happened 20 years later.

How much is a 2000 US silver penny worth?

The US has never made silver pennies. If they did they would be worth more than a dime! Your penny is probably silver plated and is used for jewelry or other decorations. It has no collector value and is no longer spendable.

Why are coins in this country no longer made in silver?

In the 1960's, the US stopped making silver coins because of the value of the metal. For example, a silver dime's silver value is worth $2 and a silver quarter is $6. Silver dollars are worth $30. The U.S. was wasting a lot of money in silver coins and the silver value was rapidly increasing, so they had to stop. Another reason would be that people took the coins, melted it and sold it to a cash-for-gold type company. Also, they would ship or smuggle them to foreign countries which is illegal.

What is the value of a silver Eisenhower dime?

The only president whose picture ever appeared (and still does) on a US dime is Franklin Roosevelt. President Eisenhower's portrait was used on $1 coins dated 1971 to 1978.In any case, if you have a Roosevelt dime dated between 1946 and 1964, it contains 2.25 gm of pure silver alloyed with 0.25 gm of copper. At mid-2011 prices the silver is worth about $2.75 retail. However, depending on date, mint mark, and condition the coin could be worth more to a collector.
