Steel cents were only made in 1943 and are easily detected because they stick to a magnet. Your coin is almost certainly a bronze cent that's been plated.

There were no steel or zinc cents struck in 1959. The fact that it's in AU condition indicates your cent has almost certainly been plated for use in jewelry or as part of a decoration. As such it's considered to be an altered coin and has no numismatic value.
A genuine 1944 steel cent is worth thousands of dollars. One sold at auction in 2008 for $373,750. To determine if a 1944 cent is steel or zinc-coated copper, test it with a magnet. Copper is not magnetic.
