If they were good strong workers and didn't get beaten much. Mostly how hard they can work. This is why after years of seletive breeding that african/americans are typically larger and more athletic than other races. When you get the big and strong to mate for several generations you tend to get that trait as something more common. Darwinism
The whole slavery thing was for economic reasons. some needed slaves to work on their plantation, some needed slaves to work at home as servants, and other needed slaves to serve in armies. Remember slaves were an unpaid labor force.
Some did. The slavers bought slaves in Africa and other areas, and brought them to the South to sell at a profit. Some were valued for their physical strength, and some were bought to provide offspring: children born to slaves became the property of their owners as well. However, children were expensive and time-consuming to care for until they were old enough to work on their own, so not all slaves were allowed to have children.
In some circumstances, yes. But the landowners of the South were impoverished by the Civil War, and many slaves simply became sharecroppers on land rented from the owners.
Simple answer is NO. Some fakes are made from low grade silver but most are not. So it may have a little value if it is silver.
Rich people owned slaves. But the question is "Did people get rich off slaves?" Can you think of any nation that has slavery that isn't poor? If owning slaves make a nation rich, then the slave owning nations of the world today should be the richest nations but instead they are the poorest. Answer "did some people get rich off slaves". Slavery came in many forms, and even today, there are still many forms of slavery (i.e., women sex slaves, children sex slaves, indentured slaves, etc.). If the question is asking if slave owners got rich off of African slaves", the answer is clearly a resounding yes. Slaveholders used the slaves to farm the land, cook, clean, etc.; such slaveholders sold the "fruit" of the land and received quite a bit of money for it. The slaves, by definition, did not get any of the money from their labor. The upkeep of the slaves was very minimal, particularly in comparison to the profit obtained from their labor. There were also a tremendous financial benefit from selling slaves. Then there were the actual slave traders - who found a great deal of profit in selling human beings. Some would say America is so great, i.e., rich because of profits received from and the hard-work of the African American slave (e.g., railroads, a thriving agricultural supplier, other areas of industry, etc.. The simple answer is yes.
Some Africans became especially valuable as slaves in the Carolinas because they were experienced in cultivating rice, which became a profitable crop in the region. Their knowledge and skills in rice cultivation made them highly sought after by plantation owners.
Slaves were considered property. Many slave owners treated their slaves quite well because they were valuable, like a good horse. However, some owners treated them poorly because they thought they were just belongings like a table or stool.
Slaves were cheap to replace.
Some did, depending on the owners...
Some slave owners treated their slaves badly because they saw them as primitive people, not high enough to exist in their league. Because slave owners bought their slaves they regarded them as property and not people. In the past slaves had no rights.
Most slaves had to work from sunrise to sunset. Some owners made their slaves work everyday, others allowed slaves one day off a month and some allowed their slaves to have Sundays as a rest day. Slaves would spend their free time mending huts, making pots and pans and relaxing. Some plantation owners allowed slaves a small plot of land to grow things to supplement their diet. Slaves were not allowed to read or write but some were allowed to go to church.
They made the myth of the happy slave and said that slavery actually helped slaves.
Some slave owners traded slaves for goods, including sugar, as a form of payment or exchange. Slaves were often treated as commodities and could be sold or traded for various goods depending on the specific circumstances and agreements made by the owner.
They get whiped really badly. some slave owners whip their slaves to death and then buy more slaves.
Because they can offered a reward for runaway slaves.....Then
Slaves in the 1800's had no protection from being hurt; their owners were free to hurt them for any reason, and with any severity that they wanted to. I could say that slaves were protected by the kindness of their owners, and in fact some slave owners were relatively kind, but most were not.
Unfortunately, slaves were considered property, so there was not much attention paid to their health and well-being. In fact, they were only considered valuable as long as they could properly perform the duties their owners expected of them. A slave who was unable to work, whether due to serious illness or old age, was considered a liability. There is evidence of a few "humane" owners (if an owner of slaves can ever be called humane) who kept their aged slaves around and gave them less strenuous work; and if a slave was especially valuable for some unique job (like caring for the master's children), there might be some medical treatment offered in case of an illness. But for the most part, once you could no longer do the work, you were either killed or allowed to die from your illness, at which time you were replaced.
