Design schemes in America in the late 20th century were strongly influenced by the simple, uncluttered lines, and sleek functionality of danish modern art.

Homes went from the European look of overstuffed sofa, frilly throw pillows, elegant wall sconces, heavy, turned wood furniture influence of the large, roomy European estates to the much simpler, casual, yet sophisticated look of cushioned frame easy chairs, unadorned, smooth wooden tables with space age chrome legs, and matching lamps, no-nonsense recliners on bentwood frames, with ottoman-type footstools on a base. The clean crisp hard lines but infused with warm wood grains and cosy, dark rich colours sitting next to lighter hues.
