It depends on what job you're pursuing and your background, availability, etc. The economy of the Ukraine is currently doing well, as the economy is one of the fastest growing in Europe.
According to the Ukrainian wikipedia, Ukraine is more urban (67.2%). This is also my personal impression of living in Ukraine. However, a number of people categorised as urban dwellers actually live in "urban-type townships" (pmt), which I would consider to be more "rural-type" than "urban-type", but I digress.

In Soviet times, the economy of Ukraine was the second largest in the Soviet Union, being an important industrial and agricultural component of the country's planned economy. With the collapse of the Soviet system, the country moved from a planned economy to a market economy. Ukraine's economy contracted severely following the years after the Soviet collapse.
