The importance of an economic system is that the economic system runs the civilization. This system forms the civilization and shows what people value. Feudalism pervaded all forms of life in the middle ages. There was a ruling class ( political/social) that controlled the economic system. The peasant and serf classes who did the labor for the ruling class were kept that way through taxes ( economic) and the inability to move out of that class to a upper class ( social/political/economic).

Examples: Free Enterprise & Capitalism 2) Command economy - An economic system in which government owns and operates all factions of production. Examples: Socialism & Communism 3) Traditional Economy - An economic system based on culture and tradition. Economy is based on agriculture and hunting. Examples: Non-Industrialized agrarian societies. 4) Mixed Economy - An economic system where both command and market systems are featured. Examples: United States is not a pure capitalist country for there are forms of socialism instilled in it to benefit individuals in need of services and has minimum wages, however, free enterprise reigns in the U.S. China also has both forms of economy, however, the Chinese government controls the prices and production.
Not necessarily, you can have a capitalist economic system under an authoritarian regime as well as under a democratic regime. Some forms of economy, like central planning, occur much more easily under an authoritarian system than a more democratic one, but it is not wholly impossible for a democratic regime to embrace central planning.
