The standard of living of a nation can be gauged from the facts how many percentage of population are able to meet the bare necessities of life :- two square meals a day, decent clothing, roof over head, access to safe drinking water. It would be such a society where average children will not suffer from malnutrition, average women folk with have healthy food to eat. Standard of living cannot be judged by the number of population a country has. Thus, the standard of living of Sweden, Denmark, Japan is much higher compared with vast populace country like China, India.
Real national income when divided by population gives real per capita income, which is an indicator of standard of living. Therefore, national income statistics can be used to compare standard of living between countries and over time. However, there are some obvious snags of using national income statistics.Standard of living is not solely determined by real per capita income. It also depends on oter factors like leisure hours, hours of travel, amount of negative externalities and many more.

Like all countries there are poor people and rich. New Zealand is considered a wealthy country by international standards with a standard of living comparable to Canada or Australia.
The rise in the national standard of living in the long term will improve the country's environmental conditions. However, in the short term, the country's environmental conditions will initially worsen. When raising the minimum wage (in order to improve standard of living) this may seem like a good idea but in reality it will not be what people think. Businesses are under strict direction to maintain a certain employee salary/wage minimum/maximum hours or amount to be paid. By raising the minimum wage to be higher, and not addressing where the money will come from within the companies budgets, the initial reaction from the companies will be to cut the employees hours down and make a smaller amount of people do the amount of work needed with more people. Therefore, initially it will decrease standard of living because employees will have to obtain more than 1 or 2 jobs and worry about the means of transportation to get to and from and scheduling conflicts etc.
If somehow, electricity "went away," then Man would just have to go back to living a lifestyle like he had before electricity.
just like living in the sewer
the time before electricity existed is refered to as "the cingularity". No one can know what it was like before that time since the known laws of physics do not apply before the big bang and are of no consequence in a universe without electricity.

Living cells, containing water conduct electricity. However other compounds in the cell resist electricity causing thermal build-up, much like the filament in a light bulb.
