The economy in a free enterprise system ( theoretically) is controlled by the market and the the market reacts to demand. However in reality the whole concept of free enterprise is nonsense as the market will always be controlled by those that have a controlling hold on the majority of supply. For example Even though any one can produce oil the oil companys control the price of oil by simply limiting the effectiveness of oil refineries. The massive oil spill on the US coast is going to make a lot of money for the oil industry as this will in future be used as an excuse for raising the price of oil. A free enterprise system is used to protect the interests of massive company's to run thinly camouflaged monopoly's.
