Who likes poverty?

We all care about our own poverty. Own here means the circle you consider larger the circle lesser is the concern. For example poverty of self is the most concerned; of the family comes next and of the society after that. Poverty of a person otherwise not directly related to us at the most earns our pity.

Even poverty of an employer is generally not of any concern of the employee as long as his salary and benefits are intact rather the income of the employer if not shared judiciously with the employees may be a case of envy.

All those who can be benefited by the poverty likes it. It may not be personal financial poverty but of others you may like it. To explain the banks will like poverty to extend loan, the politicians will like it to lure the voters, administrators will like it so that others are not adequately empowered.

However there are examples of great people who celebrated it. In recent times Mahatma Gandhi of India in spite of having the largest financial resources, good will and brand value he lived like poorest of the poor and richest of the rich in terms of philosophy and principles.

In the ancient past Lord Rama celebrated the poverty by accepting the conditions to honour his father, the conditions made him the poorest as he had to give up the kingdom, the right to claim on the throne and to live in jungles for 14 years. (14 saal ka vanvas)

His brother Bharat who in turn was supposed to be benefited also refused the riches and lived in acute poverty such as living outside the palace in a hut, sleeping on the floor, eating just for sustenance at the same time did the administration on behalf of his exiled brother.
