Charles B Darrow intenvented Monopoly beacause he was a doody head!
The first edition of Monopoly, originally called "The Landlord's Game," was created by Elizabeth Magie in 1904 and was intended to illustrate the negative aspects of land monopolism. However, the game as we know it today was published by Parker Brothers in 1935, and it was sold for around $1.50 at that time. Adjusted for inflation, that would be approximately $30 today.

It was invented by a single person, Charles B. Darrow.Charles Darrow merely adapted Monopoly and then fraudulently patented it as his own invention, having learnt it from Quaker friends. A game called The Landlord's Game was patented by Lizzie Magie in 1903, patent no.748,626, this was later renewed in 1924 with patent no. 1,509,312. This patent no. can be seen on early Parker Brothers' Monopoly sets, the rights having been bought from Magie for a mere $500, yet Darrow became a millionaire.
Lizzie Magie and Charles Darrow and it was created in 1935
The board game 'Monopoly' is named after the economic concept of monopoly, the domination of a market by a single seller. The concept was based on a game by Lizzie J Magie, a Quaker from Virginia. Magie's invention was called the Landlord Game, and was designed to promote her political agenda by demonstrating how rents enrich property owners and impoverish tenants. The properties on Magie's board were for rent only, not acquisition. Charles Darrow developed his own version of the game, patenting and releasing it in 1935. It was popular as, during the Depression, people enjoyed the idea of a game in which players could make their fortune, accumulate large sums of money and send other players into financial ruin. There is a term called monopolizing. "To have a monopoly on something; To dominate something by excluding everyone else"-en.wiktionary.org/monopolize. So your goal in Monopoly is to have total control over your property and exclude it from everyone else. Which is how Monopoly got its name.
Elizabeth Magie, the inventor of the Landlord's Game, which inspired the creation of Monopoly, died from complications related to a stroke. She passed away on December 15, 1948, in her home in Arlington, Virginia. Magie was 81 years old at the time of her death.
