This is a much trickier question than it first appears. Both employees and customers want to be treated fairly and there will be negative consequences on the business if they do not feel treated fairly. This may mean "equal pay for equal work" or "level playing field" pricing to customers.

On the other hand, "equality" does not imply that each employee is paid the same or that all customers are treated exactly alike. Some employees contribute more to the company's success than others do. Some customers have a different trade-off of price/quality/speed of service than others do.

I some ways, what people really want is not to be treated equally but to be treated fairly and with respect for them as individual human beings.
