As a veterinarian, you will have to deal with clients and bosses depending on your type of practice. If you are in a large group, you often have a boss to deal with along with your clients. You also have to deal with the animals, staff, and the people who sell veterinary equipment.
A veterinarian in private practice will impact primarily his/her clients and the families of those clients. However, a veterinarian in public practice (military, federal regulatory, etc.) will impact the general public.

Why is your dog coughing? Is it heart related, is it kennel cough, is it pneumonia, internal parasites, etc. So please take your dog to see your Veterinarian if you truly love your dog.
If they are working with biological samples (blood, feces, urine, etc.) they should be as a protection for the veterinarian.
