Can you begin a paragraph with thus?

A paragraph is a group of sentences. If the sentence makes sense and the order of the sentences does too, it should be ok.

Example of an 'ok' start of a paragraph with AS

...The doctors had told Sean that he would need to have surgery on his arm.

As time progressed, Sean had started to recover from the car accident...

You can start the conclusion with thus, but not the beginning of the report. Thus refers back to something you said in a previous statement.

This would not be advisable because the word "otherwise" refers to something previously discussed - you could use it to begin a supporting sentence.
