Admissions in IISER and IIST is based totally on the basis of your AIR in IIT_JEE for that you have to attend their separate counseling at their respective campus for latest updated regarding entrance exam and counseling here are some useful site for you
If you really interested in research career, IISERs are the best for undergraduate education in Basic Sciences in India. Also you get good exposure to the frontier research topics during your undergraduate years in IISER. Trust me; I am pursuing my 2nd year of integrated M.S. course in IISER Pune.
i dont think so.in iist and iiser the first preference is given to those rankers in the cml who have not been given any seat in iits.there will be 1500 or more candidates like that.moreover there are only 156 seats in iist. but who if you are lucky you may getin. dont be disheartened and do apply for them.
iiser comes after all the iit and top 17 nit.some state govt college is also better than iiser like( pec, hbti, bengal engineering college...etc).
There is possible admission in IISc and IISER institutes. IISc / Jawaharlal Inst of Adv Studies / IIIt Bangalore ( Triple IT Bangalore - pronounced ). There are other private institutes which consider this EML rank list of IIT. I am not sure of full list, but these may be Dhirubhai Ambani Inst at Gandhinagar. You will need to check at IISC site and IISER .. to learn more about the possibilities.

A rank of 12,000 in the IIT JEE may not guarantee a seat in the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) through the JEE pathway, as IISERs typically have limited seats and competition can be quite high. Admission criteria can vary each year based on the number of applicants and their ranks. However, IISERs also offer admission through other channels, such as the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) and the KVPY exam, so exploring those options might be beneficial. It’s advisable to check the latest admission guidelines and trends for the specific IISERs you are interested in.
