No. You only have to go to medical school if you want to be a doctor in the military. What people refer to as "medics" are enlisted members of the military that are trained first as EMT's or similar equivilent. As your time (and rank) in the military increases you can apply to more schools to increase your knowledge and abilities. There are also many other specialities in the military medical system that you can specialize in (e.g. LPN equivalent, X-ray techs, Lab tech, pharmacy techs, OR techs and the list goes on just like in the civilian world).
