In general terms, the disadvantages of education (understood as the formal preparation of youth for productive living as individuals and as members of society) are not numerous, but they are significant. Any formal education program will suffer from the fact that new truths are often discovered which will replace or revise previously accepted ideas or interpretations. Society, too, often develops new values and customs with the maturity of new generations, which must cause tensions between what is taught in the schools and what is done outside of them. It is also very difficult for different groups within the same society to agree on what "their" educational system should teach and how, which will lead to either a watered-down educational content or educational goals and methods that will please only one part of the larger social group.
