No, you do not have to be super smart, but you have to be smart AND you have to work hard, very hard. You also have to enjoy reading alot. There is a lot to read. to become a lawyer takes hard work, committment, time and a vision of what you want in life. Without those, you will wash out in your first year (if you even get into law school)

Yes lawyers are very smart. Lawyers need to be masters at critical reading and memorization. They also need to have an open mind to catch how one case may apply to a current case. Juris Doctors also need to be very articulable. Not only are they presenting information on paper but they're also communicating with a judge, prosecutor, jury, the press, and most importantly, the client.
