Answer

If your definition of Auto-Mechanic means repair and maintenance of automobiles, the answer is no. You do not need a degree at all. That being said, do not throw the idea of a degree in auto mechanics out the window either. In today's high tech environment, education will be critical to your success in any field. So, read this carefully. There are community colleges that offer an Associates of Applied Science (AAS), in Auto Mechanics some times called Automotive Technology. Think about it if your career goal is within this field. In addition, you never know where that degree will lead. Maybe it will bring you to a Technical Engineering degree such as Mechanical Engineering Technologywhere you can move from an associates through Phd.

Answer:

This question has appeard in a section entitled mechanics in the science section. Its worth noting that this is a totally different type of mechanics to auto-repair; its Newtonian mechanics, and just basically means mathematically modelling or defining the way objects behave under certain physical conditions, using an area of physics we call mechanics.
