no, even though going into a specialized high school does look good ..it does NOT increase your chances of getting into a good college.
REASONS
-you may be smart but if your average/ SAT score stinks in Stuyvesant/BronxSci you don't have a chance
-lets say theres a kid who goes to stuy h.s. and a kid who goes to forest hills hs. The kid in stuyvesant has a GPA of 97.89 and the kid in a forest hills has a GPA of 96.23. You may think that the kid in stuy has a higher chance of getting into cornell or any other ivy..but that's a wrong impression. If the kid in forest hills has a sat score of 2350 and the kid in stuy and SAT score of 2200, the kid in forest hills h.s. will get accepted to the ivy leaugy
WHY
-specialized h.s.=more competition, less chances to get into good college
-nonspecialized h.s.=standout from the rest=get into a better college
hope this helped...
PS.i went to forest hills high school and got into Princeton University with an SAT score of 2350
:]
