I don't know what schooling you are referring to, but in North America it takes at least 12 years after high school to become a psychiatrist.

First you have at least an undergraduate degree (4 years usually) then you have 4 years of medical school. Finally you will need to do a residency in psychiatry which usually takes 4 or 5 years.
