It is my understanding that in order for human communication to take place, there must be

1. a SENDER

2. with a MESSAGE

3. and a MEDIUM through which to transmit

4. to a RECEIVER

5. who has UNDERSTANDING.

If any of these components are missing or interfered with, communication will fail.

Communication can be verbal (voice) or non-verbal (body language).

A message can be as simple as one word (STOP!) or as complex as an entire novel.

The medium can be air, writing, electronic (telephone, video, etc.), sign language, or of a graphic nature.

The receiver must be another human being.

The receiver must be able to understand the sender's message after it is received. Fluency in a common language with the sender is usually necessary for complex messages to be understood.
