First, you could say good morning and wait a minute for your audience to respond if they choose. If you have a certain program to follow, begin the program in a well-modulated voice-- neither too soft or too loud. If acceptable, you could insert one-sentence humor (always G-rated!) if circumstances permit. (For example, "Well, I can see that half of you are still asleep-- as am I ! Assemblies this early should always include a pillow.) Help the audience know the subject, just like chapters in a book have a title or heading. For example, "I've been given announcements to tell you next." Then, read each announcement clearly, stopping for a second between each one. Try not to rush, but also, don't be shy and drag out the time too much. If there is a usual way the school ends an assembly, make sure you lead your audience. At the end, say "Thank you for your attention." If at any time your audience begins to heckle you, try to either ignore it or use humor to redirect the audience back to what you are saying.
