"Comimos" is the Preterit translation meaning that "we ate" only one time in the past or at a specific event.

Ex. Anoche comimos juntos (Last night we ate [dinner] together)

Comimos dos pasteles (We ate two cakes)

"Comíamos" is the imperfect translation and is used when you did a lot of eating in the past.

Ex. Cuando éramos niños comíamos mucho helado. (When we were kids we [used to eat] ate a lot of ice cream).
