By using Alt codes on Windows you can enter any symbol or foreign accented letter. Alt codes are utilised by holding down the ALT key while entering the corresponding numerals, then releasing the ALT key.
Note that you must use the number key pad on the right, it does not work with the numbers up top above the letters.

It depends on what keyboard you are using (different countries have different keyboards - especially when they speak different languages). If you are using a US keyboard, there is no option to type í naturally. In Microsoft products (such as Word, etc.) there is a convention on PCs to use Ctrl + ' , followed by the letter over which you want the accent to form. On Apples, the convention is Apple + e, followed by the letter over which you want the accent to form.If you are using a Spanish keyboard, press the acute accent key and then press the letter over which you want the accent to form.
To place an accent over the letter "e" in Rene, you can use the following keystrokes depending on your operating system or device: On Windows: Hold down the Alt key and type 0233 on the numeric keypad. On Mac: Hold down the Option key and press the "e" key, then type the letter "e" again. This will create the é character.
maddymcD - After looking on lots and LOTS of websites, I have finally found a formula for accents that will work on my Mac. How these work - Press the 'Option' key and the letter specific to each type of accent at the same time, and then let go and press the letter (L) that you would like the accent to be over. These are how to do the different types of accents, and they will work on the letters 'n,N,o,O,a,A'. Type of accent, Sample, Formula Acute, Ó ó, Option+E, L(letter that the accent will be over) Circumflex, Ô ô, Option+I, L(letter) Grave, Ò ò, Option+`(symbol to the left of number 1), L (letter) Tilde, Õ õ, Option+N, L (letter) Umlaut, Ö ö, Option+U, L (letter) Example: To input the letter Ó, hold down the Option key, then the E key. Release both keys and then type a capital O. I don't know if these will work on windows or other computers, but for all those people out their that own macs, it is the formula for you! If this helps you, please recommend me. Thanks :) -maddymcD
To remove the e with an accent when typing an apostrophe, you can press the backspace key after typing the apostrophe to delete the accent mark. Alternatively, you can type the apostrophe followed by the letter e again without the accent to overwrite the accented e.
Fiance with one e (and an accent) is the masculine. Fiancee is the feminine, with an accent over the first e. I can't figure out how to type accents on windows, though :-/
There are a few ways. You can go to the Insert menu and go to Symbol and then Normal Text and you will find them there. If you hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and then press any one of the vowel keys, you can get an accent over them.
J'habite avec ma mere, mon pere, et mon frere. (There are accent marks on the first e in mere and pere and frere. It's an accent mark that looks like \ but over the letter. I cant type it.)
You have some way to get to the fonts that you are using. This is easy with Word documents. Go to the font and you will see that pretty much any combination of letter and accent will be represented on the list. You will have to do some clicking and highlighting, but you will see how you can copy the letter you want into your document. You cannot type in a letter and then, after it is typed, add an accent as you would when writing.
L'Ecosse - there is an accent aigu over the first e (I couldn't figure out how to type it in). the adjective forms (Scottish) are ecossais, ecossaise (again with the accent aigu).
To add a French accent in Microsoft Word, you can use the keyboard shortcuts. For example, to add an acute accent (´) in French, you would type the base letter followed by the apostrophe key. For instance, to type é, you would press the keys ' + e. You can find a list of keyboard shortcuts for various accents online to help you easily type French characters in Word.
