Prehistoric dates can be written in terms of the period in which they occurred or with the use of B.C. after the date. B.C. commonly stands for "before Christ." However, recent changes have called for B.C. to be replaced with BCE which means "Before Common Era." When using either B.C. or BCE, the dates count backwards instead of forward.
