A useful intermediary is a German-Spanish dictionary, where you can see that

German 'Mann'= Spanish 'hombre'; 'Frau'= 'mujer'; 'Kind'= 'nino/nina', etc.

Like Spanish (and unlike English), German has gender, so the word for 'the' is:

'der' = 'el'

'die' = 'la'

but German also has a neuter form

'das'.

Conjugation is also more complicated in German than in Spanish.
