In the United States, hammer throw is not commonly contested in high school Track and Field events. As of my last knowledge update, only a few states, including New York and California, allow the hammer throw at the high school level. The majority of states do not include it in their high school athletics programs, often due to safety concerns and facility limitations. Therefore, the number of states where the hammer is not thrown in high school is quite high, likely exceeding 40 states.
Im not sure about the rules for other states, but i know the state of never doesn't let the high schoolers throw the hammer. In High School, the only state that has the hammer throw is Rhode Island.
Javelin is thrown in Rhode Island Track and field events. I don't know about the other states. I know that the javelin is thrown in high school in these states as well: Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, New York, New Jersey, Alabama, Louisiana, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Utah, and Wyoming.
