well depends how well you did on the pretest and how good you want to score, i scored a 85 on my Enlisted Screen Test back in may and i took the actual test until this week ,almost 3 months studying off and on, i bought 2 different study guides on-line on amazon and i box set of flash cards. i normally studied 1 section every time i sat down to study regardless of the time i spent doing a section at least 3 times a week and used the flashcards mostly for the vocabulary and to reviews sections i already done on the books. using the pretest you can identify which sections you want to concentrate more on. all in all i got a score of 97 which was more than i anticipated but really showed me that studying really really helped not only was i not nervous taking the test but most of the questions seemed alot easier than what i thought i was going to be.
good luck!
Whether ASVAB is hard or not is subjective. However, if you have an overall satisfactory high school record then possibly you have a great chance of doing well on the ASVAB. Of course the key is to prepare yourself for the test over an extended period of time. Helpful site for preparation: http://www.examville.com/examville/mh-asvab.jsp

Your local community college will show your local classes ASVAB test. You will need 80% percent in order to pass.
There are a number of sites that offer a free practice test or practice questions. Check out: http://www.military.com/ASVAB AND http://www.4tests.com/exams/examdetail.asp?eid=67 The first site has a lot of info on the significance of the test as well as tips on how to take it. You can find these at a number of sites. www.usmilitary.com/asvab-practice-test/ and military.com/ASVAB are merely two of many. sites.

When you see a recruiter they will ask if you've taken the asvab if you say no they will give you a shortened version of the asvab, I think it was 50 questions total. The only addition I have to this answer is that the shortened version is called the Enlistment Screening Test (EST). I have taken it, at the Navy Office. It doesn't count as your score, it just gives them an idea of where your ASVAB score would be for tween they talk possible career interests, and what you realistically can and can't qualify for when you take the actual ASVAB
