How many years do you need to study in order to be in architect?

Not all architects spend more then 8 years, some spend 5 (bachelor of science or professional degree program), and some even 6 (master of architecture). In order to become a licensed architect, a minimum of a 5 year degree is required. One can not be licensed with a 4 year "architectural studies" degree. However, in addition to the 5 or 6 year degree requirement, a 3 year internship under the guidance of a licensed architect (through the Intern Development Program) is also required in order to qualify to sit for a nationally standardized testing process for architectural licensure regulated by the (NCARB).

The minimum educational requirement is a bachelor's degree. While most bachelor degrees are four year programs of study, architecture is a five year program within the United States. Still, many architects go on and pursue a master's degree, and some a PhD.
