It takes a minimum of 8 years after high school to become a doctor, and then a minimum of another 3 years before they can practice on their own, and possibly more depending on specialty. So in total a minimum of 11 years after high school.

it depends on what you study in medicine and how much of it you want to study but it could take around about 3 to 7 years

Although you could finish medical school in 3 years minimum. As the previous answer alluded to. You must finish a degree at a university before you even get to medical school, Which is 4 years including advanced science courses in Chemistry and Biology.

After medical school, you are looking at at-least 2 years as an intern and resident before you even can think about your specialty. Then another 2 - 3 years for that.

You are looking at 11 - 13 years in full. It's a long path

If you are referring to a medical doctor, it take four years for The Bachelor's degree with completion of all required prerequisite coursework, and four years of medical school. There will also be an additional three or more years to complete the internship and residency requirements depending on the specialty.

Within the United States it would take four years for the bachelor's degree with completion of all prerequisite coursework required by medical schools and four years of medical school. Thus, eight years post high school completion. While many individuals who pursue a career as a physician major in biology at the undergraduate level, many others come from a variety of other educational backgrounds. The best major to take should be based on a contingency plan. In other words, what happens if you do not go to medical school? What will you be able to do with the degree that you have, and will it provide you with a satisfying career or career path? You should meet with a career counselor at the college or university you attend for what options exist for you. The important issue is acquiring the appropriate prerequisites required for medical school. The student should have a strong background in the following areas.

  • Communication (written and oral)
  • Higher level math's (algebra, trigonometry, calculus)
  • Biology (cell biology, biology of the organism)
  • Chemistry (inorganic, organic)
  • Physics
  • Computer literacy
  • Development of good critical thinking skills.

Following the bachelor's degree, would be four years of medical school to obtain the MD or DO degree. There will also be an additional three or more years to complete the internship and residency requirements depending on the specialty.

It often depends on which particular specialty you wish to pursue. At the most basic level, all doctors must attend medical school where they study for 4 years. After that they must go through an internship and then focus on a specialty which can take from 3 to 7 more years.
