Minimum of two years foreign language in high school
Hey im 14 yrs old, In 3rd year and im not doing a language in school. Can someone tell me if i can get into college with out a language??? Im confused =( No, you don't need to learn a language to get to sixth form college... Some universities you do though.
No. It only matters how many years of a foreign language you take. As long as they offer 3 to 4 years, you will be fine.
four through six years.
Learning a language in school usually take 3 to 4 years to become fluent.
Sure, but it is up to the college how many of your units they will allow to transfer into your new progam/college.
your high school should have a requirement that will probably suffice. Depending on your definition of good, it wouldn't hurt to take it all 4 years of high school. After all, the goal of learning a foreign language is to learn it. If you want to get into a good college you better be prepared to work for it.
Foreign can mean several things. It can refer to a country that is different from your own: If you are American, British people are foreign, but if you are British, Americans are foreign. Or it can refer to a language that is different from yours, or rather different from the language or languages spoken in your country: In France, English is a foreign language. And finally, it can refer to something that is different or strange: The idea that women should go to college is foreign to many men in Afghanistan.
There are many Universitys that will accept ASL as a foreign language. For example, Yale and Stanford will accept ASL as a foreign language but many state schools do not have a policy in place. Often, if you speak with the dean of English and request to be tested out of the foreign language requirement in place of ASL, they will work with you. Contact the National Association of the Deaf, (NAD) www.nad.org and they can give you a list of each school that will accept ASL as foreign language credit.

Unless one plans to enroll in foreign-language courses or exchange programs with other institutions, one only needs to speak the native language(s) of the college upon enrollment. However, multiple languages always enhance the candidate's profile.
I think it's 1 year but I'm not exactly sure.. might be 2 years.
