To be teacher certified for Pre-K through third grade, one must complete their Bachelors - usually - in Early Childhood Education. I say usually because today there are so many alternative routes to teaching. The bachelors degree is designed to be a four year program of study, provided the student follows the program as prescribed for a full-time student. Viper1

In the UK, you first need to complete sixth form and a 4 your degree at university. After that, you need a placement withe a school or training programme, both of which trains you to teach your skills, taking around another 2 years. After that, all you need is employment in a school!
