Dental Hygiene is a two year Associate of Applied Science degree. That being said, the program will take two years to complete once the student enters the professional phase of the program. How long it takes to get to the professional phase is another question. In general, Dental Hygiene is a competitive program with more applicants than seats available. Thus, most all institutions who offer this program have in place some type of selection process. There will be usually prerequisites to complete with a GPA particular to that program and school. Some prerequisites may include, English Composition, General psychology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, and Chemistry for Allied Health. In addition, some schools might require some type of written test. Students are then ranked according to their GPA, test results, along with other criteria as required particular to a selection of best fit according to the institution. Students interested in this program should contract each school of interest, and obtain a written document on the requirements of their Dental Hygiene admissions and selection process. Viper1
