If you are referring to a valid college or university degree, the minimum requirement for counselors is a master's degree, but many have a doctorate and are licensed. The masters can take between two and three years to complete post bachelor's degree, and the doctorate four years post bachelor's to complete. Now, if you are referring to being a counselor within your church, that is a quite different area and you should consult with your pastor.
