'hago' is 1st person singular of 'hacer', to make or do = 'I do'

But 'do' in English is an auxiliary verb, e.g. in commands and questions:

'Do come in!' 'Do shut the door!'

'Do you speak Spanish?' 'Do you come here often?'

and in these cases the 'do' is absorbed into the main verb

'Entra!' 'Cierra la puerta!'

'Hablas espanol?' 'Vienes a menudo aqui?'

So the context is important: the answer to 'Do you speak Spanish?' could be simply 'Yes' or 'I do': in Spanish 'Si' or (unlikely) 'Lo hablo' (I speak it)
