Without a doubt, no. Books and movies usually differ, but this one is to an extreme. The movie barely touched on the actual book. The events were completely changed. There were HUGE gaps in the storyline of the movie.

I'm not sure, but I have witnessed a lot of people that have passed quizzes by watching the movie version of the book, but the bigger the book is, the more that could be left out from the movie, but kids have passed quizzes about the Harry Potter books, so it's definitely possible.
