The big deal about getting into an ivy league school is that when you graduate you will have great respect and will be recognized as a great professional anywhere you go.

To some people it matters more if you go to an Ivy League for graduate school instead of undergraduate. An Ivy League education can open doors, and it is impressive to potential future employers. As far as the actual education you receive, Ivy League schools are not necessarily better.

Columbia was the last Ivy League university to admit women, in 1983. Cornell was the first Ivy League to admit women, since it was established as a coeducational university upon its foundation in 1865. Most of the Ivy League universities (Ivy League unversities being UPenn, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton, and Cornell) remained open to only men up until the late 1960s, though throughout that time they maintained close ties with the Seven Sisters women's colleges close by (Radcliffe, Smith, Barnard, Vassar, Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, and Wellesley). The Ivy League universities are among the most prestigious and eldest collegiate institutions of the eastern US who bound themselves together to form an athletic conference (hence the "league") with their respective sports teams.
You would certainly be in the running. And if by "Ivy League", you are thinking of more schools than simply Harvard or Yale, you have a good chance. However, there are other issues. 1. Money. Ivy League schools are expensive. Do you have a scholarship? Can you get one? Independantly wealthy parents? 2. Your application. It will have to be spelled correctly and wrote appropriately. 3. Why you? There are many who have done well, at least one per high school in America. So why should they accept you? This isn't to discourage - but you'll need to know that they cannot take everyone.
