Because they want to give there children and themselves a higher standard of living.
Actually, it seems that there really is no choice for a lot of people living in urban areas. Urban people are more likely to be poor and less likely to have reliable transportation. So without transportation, you have to be near where you work or do business. If you don't have much family, then you don't have rural land in the family, and have to live in rental property which tends to be more in cities.
