No, physics is not required for interior designing. However, it should be laid an emphasis on the fact that the basic knowledge of physics should be there to understand the fundamental allocation of materials and accessories in the space.

In my opinion, physics might have a slight role to play in the dynamics of the room as it can help the interior designer in determining the paint’s life, the functioning of light in the space, and some details regarding the walls of the room too.

However, it should be noted that physics is required crucially for architecture as the formation of buildings largely depends on physical factors. Moreover, if you are looking forward to pursuing an interior design course, then you must note that physics is not a compulsory subject to get enrolled or pass into the interior designing course.

Physics explains why (or why not) a room's walls stand up, how paint dries, and how lighting works. All of these things are important for interior design, so, yes, at least a fundamental understanding of physics a good thing in the profession, but you won't have to be the next Stephen Hawking. :)
