This is a broad question and most likely won't be answered completely by this response but here is a start. The causes of malnourished children can be the result of politics that don't allow the right foods or proper care to get to the children; diseases and disorders such as diarrhea that interfere with eating or absorption of nutrients; famine, floodsand other natural disorders that destroy crops or won't allow crops to grow; the death or abscence of parents; the abscence of medical supplies, equipment and expertise; and other causes. Fortunately, much of this can be prevented but unfortunately, it is not. The effects of malnourished children are -- they do not grow normally -- meaning they may not reach their full height. For example, in some countries where unleaven bread is consumed, zinc absorption may be inhibited. If the body does not get enough zinc, the child may not reach full stature. The effects may also mean that children have poor health -- this may be due to lack of food and clean water. And the last effect listed is death. This is an unfortunate loss to cultures, countries and humankind. This subject encompasses so much more that what is written above but it is a start. Hopefully others will contribute to the response.
