It can be difficult to communicate effectively if they are overcome with emotions such as anger, sadness, or panic. Another barrier may be access. Definitely the best question of the day. For "the fear of the emotion of anger" - one of the most powerful emotions - is the greatest barrier to communication. Let me lay out the problem: Let me first say that we all like to be liked and accepted. And, when we express anger, in most instances, we get rejected. That sets up a cycle of not wanting to express anger, for we don't like the idea of being rejected. Here we have the dilemma: on the one hand we want to be liked, but on the other hand if we can not express our anger, we eventually will hate. So either avenue will have negative results. The solution that I have proposed for many years, is to come to an agreement with your partner and allow him/her a specified amount of time - e.g. two minutes - to express their feelings - e.g. anger - without interruption, followed by the same limits granted to the partner.
