In the Irish (Gaeilge) the word baile can mean either 'home' (sa bhaile, at home) or 'a town/village'. The latter is seen in the numerous placenames beginning with 'Bally-'. Ballybeg, Ballymore, etc.

In the Scottish Gaelic language (Gaidhlig) the meaning of baile is 'village/town/city', used in placenames; Balmoral etc.
