What does context include?

Context includes cues we find in any sentence, paragraph, or passage. Cues may point to a person or persons, a location or locations (setting), a specific or general place (landscape), a specific or general time period (example: 1920), a specific or general time of day, details, descriptions, opinions, feelings, facts, etc. Cues may range from lacking to specific. Compare the contexts between these three writings:

The student poured one measured spoon of salt.

Or--

The student poured one measured spoon of salt onto her lunch, hurrying to eat before returning to her afternoon classes upstairs.

Or---

On the third floor of the science building, the female student noted the time as 1:15 p.m. as she poured one measured spoon of salt onto bacteria in a petri dish.

Each of these sentences give different cues for context.
