Donde está (note the accent) means "Where is he/she/it/you*"

Donde means "Where?" and está means "it is, he is, she is".

*In Spanish, when talking to someone to whom you wish to show respect, you call them "usted" and conjugate verbs in the 3rd person.

But it isn't "Where it is/she /he." It translates out as "Where is it/ she/ he."

"¿Dónde está el baño?" means "Where is the restroom?" (dawn-day es-tah el bahn-yo)

Reply to "Donde está"? with a location, for it means "Where is it/he/she"?. The alternate is to reply to the question "donde esta"? (no accent on the a), "where (is) this one"? Of course, the Spanish answer depends greatly on what the question refers to.
