What does la grapadora mean in Spanish?

It's about a record tape machine, like the big ones on 80's, that many young people carry on their shoulders.

People didn't carry big tape recorders on their shoulders, they carried big RADIOS which probably did have a recorder/player built in.

La grabadora simply means THE RECORDER and does NOT specify that you should have to use TAPES.
