Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce

This qualification is for all those who would like to work in the Children and Young People's workforce including early years.

You don't need any formal qualifications e.g. GCSE'sor A levels to get onto the course, but you need to be at least 16 years of age and be working in a childcare setting

As with any education job you need a minimum of C grade in Maths and English. You will need to advance to "A" Level stage and attend Teaching College or University to gain a minim PGCE plus key skills and or QTS. In some areas of the UK it is planned that teachers will have to undertake numeracy and literacy testing throughout their development stages (in discussion in Wales at present). To become a nursery worker and not a teacher you do not need to be qualified to PGCE but you will need Maths and English at GCSE as a minimum. Some areas of the UK will have additional requirements (IE. where there is a devolved education system such as Scotland and Wales ) These should be investigated with their educational departments.
