Good question. Although UW is not an Ivy League school, it still is one on the top 50 colleges and universities in the nation. UW considers the GPA more important than how much average universities do. 53% of accepted applicants from 2009 had GPA of 3.75 or higher. So it can be interpreted that at least 3.5 with superb essay is needed for getting into UW.

It all depends on your major. Some majors like engineering require you to have at least a 3.8 grade point average minimum. There is, however, some other majors that are not as popular or in demand. With these majors, someone could be accepted with a grade point average as low as 3.0 if you're lucky.

Your GPA is only one factor that the UW (or any college) will consider when deciding if you will be accepted. Other factors include SAT/ACT scores, the classes you took, community service hours, work experience (not all college's ask about this), and an essay (again, not all ask for one, but UW does). However, a low GPA will decrease your chances and a high GPA will increase them. When I applied to get in, a 3.1 GPA was slightly lower than average, but still very acceptable. A good place to check on these sort of things is College Board (http://www.collegeboard.com). You can also sign up for the SAT there, because most colleges require you take either the SAT or the ACT. Good Luck
Typically, when a students applies to a college or university, is accepted, and then does not attend, or attends and stops out for one or more semesters, the school will require they re-apply should the student wish to return.. Thus, the institution itself may be calling that a renewal application.Typically, when a students applies to a college or university, is accepted, and then does not attend, or attends and stops out for one or more semesters, the school will require they re-apply should the student wish to return..
